Following is my report to the Board of Education for June 16, 2026.

4th and 5th Grade

It has been exciting to celebrate the end of the year with all of our students, but especially our 4th and 5th graders who are completing Elementary School. Our Class Parents planned and organized wonderful activity nights for each grade. Our teachers put together another wonderful (despite the heat) trip to Lake Compounce. Next week we will have our 4/5 Picnic (with some organized light hearted competition for best class).

Moving Up Ceremonies

We have an exciting final week planned.

• On Monday, June 22, our Pre-K and 5th graders will move up.
• On Tuesday, June 23, our 4th graders will move up.
• On Thursday, June 25, we will once again hold our end of year parade for all students.

Elementary Goals

• Adopting and Implementing the PK-5 Literacy and Phonics Resources
  • Dr. Hope Weinberg will be on campus for a final professional development session with each grade level. This will set us up for Summer Curriculum work and starting the year for full implementation.

Haldane Middle School Administrator's Board Report – June 2026

The 6th grade enjoyed their trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 26th and June 1st. Thank you to Mr. Sniffen and the 6th-grade team for arranging this immersive learning experience for our students. The student council, led by 8th grader Parker Fyfe and facilitated by Mr. Virgadamo, worked to arrange a whole-school trip this year. The middle school attended Education Day at Renegades Stadium on May 27th. The students had a great time. We thank the student council for running spirit weeks, Wellness Wednesdays, dances, movie nights, and trips!

We continue our collaboration with the Beacon Elks Lodge, participating in their student of the month program for a third year. The goal is to recognize students who excel academically and who also demonstrate good citizenship within their schools and communities. Haldane Middle School Counselor Kristen Amato facilitates this collaboration on behalf of our school. It is a joy to have our students recognized each month. As part of the initiative, past students of the month are eligible to be selected by their team of teachers as students of the year. The students of the year are honored at the annual Flag Day ceremony on the lawn of the Elks Lodge in Beacon. I am excited to attend this Sunday, June 14th. This year, we will honor the following Haldane students:

• Claudette Coelius (grade 6)
• Eva Gregorio (grade 7)
• Kaya Grahn (grade 8)

The Living Environment Regents exam will be next Thursday, the 18th, and students enrolled in Algebra will take their Regents exam on Wednesday, June 17th. As a celebration of all their hard work, the 8th Grade will take a special trip to SPINS on the Hudson. The Haldane 8th Grade Moving Up ceremony will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, June 24th, in the auditorium. Refreshments will be provided by the PTA in the cafeteria immediately after the ceremony.

We wish the Board of Education a restful summer break.

My report to the Board of Education for June 16, 2026, follows.

On Wednesday, May 21st, we had an amazing showing for the Annual Haldane Arts Alliance Awards. Many students had the opportunity to perform, and as you can imagine, their talents blew us away.

We celebrated our seniors on Thursday, May 28th, at the Annual Senior Dinner. Thank you to the PTA, specifically Kathryn O’Hara, Bernadette Knox, Melanie Campanile, Danielle Pack-McCarthy, and Luz Bailey, for their organization and support.

The Annual Literary Magazine has been published. If you have not already received one, you will. Thank you to Ms. Pearce, Ms. Martinez, and Ms. Booth for their hard work and dedication to the magazine. This year, the students dedicated our magazine to Alison Martin and Lee Posniack.

The 2025-2026 Yearbook was distributed at the Senior Diner and Picnic. Thank you to Mrs. Granese and Mrs. Peparo for leading the Yearbook Club. This year, the Yearbook was dedicated to Alison Martin and Lee Posniack.

The Habitat Revival Club purchased a sign for the Butterfly Garden in honor of the graduating class and all their hard work in bringing the garden to life. Thank you specifically to Sophia Kelly.

The Junior and Senior Prom was held on Friday, June 5, at Bear Mountain. Thank you to Mrs. Granese, Mr. Crowe, Mrs. Secor, Mr. Sullivan, Mrs. Peparo, Ms. Ortiz, Mr. Sniffen, and Deputy Tolve for their assistance. All had a great time. I would also like to thank Boscobel and Amber Stickle for their assistance in ensuring the annual Boscobel photos continue.

Congratulations to William O’Hara on being selected as the “Senior of the Year” by the Haldane faculty and staff.

On Tuesday, June 9th, students took the new ELA Regents exam. Haldane was selected as part of the early scoring group across NYS. Thank you, Nancy Martinez for your organization and management of the scoring process. On Thursday, June 11, the World Language level III students took the new Checkpoint C Assessment developed in partnership with Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES.

On Tuesday, June 11th, the Seniors gathered to celebrate their last full day of school. Thank you to all the seniors who cooked bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches for the faculty and staff.

The Identity Club has been working on two projects; they have raised $400 for the Trevor Project and put together a Pride Month information board in the High School. Thank you to our students and faculty advisors, Mrs. Andrea McCue and Ms. Anna Pearce.

Thank you to Honorable Anthony R. Mole, County Judge; Mackenzie Ferguson, Assistant District Attorney; and Sheila Hanley from The Prevention Council of Putnam County for meeting with our Juniors and Seniors at a pre-prom assembly.

Our Advanced Placement Modern World History classes are completing Civic’s Projects. We currently have 27 projects underway. Students are working on topics such as Food Scarcity and Adequate Living Standards, to Extreme Surveillance and the Right to Privacy.

Our math classes are also working on end-of-year projects. Statistics include:

• Is there truly a relationship between age and music genre preference?
• Is there a difference in reaction time between athletes and non-athletes?
• Math, Money, and You: Research Studies on How AI is Impacting the Financial Analyst Career and Understanding Insurance Today.

The Advanced Placement Calculus class is working on Improper Integrals and Applications of Calculus to Physics.

On Wednesday, June 10th, we had a panel discussion with recent Haldane graduates and our seniors. We thank our panelists and Dr. Eric Kupper for providing updated Narcan training. On Thursday, June 11th, we celebrated our seniors at the Annual Haldane High School picnic. Thank you to Tom Cunningham, Joe Virgadamo, and Eddie Crowe for their support.

Curriculum & Human Resources Board Report – June 2026

As part of our ongoing efforts to better understand the role of artificial intelligence in education, we recently developed a survey for graduating seniors to gather their perspectives on AI use in the educational setting. The survey was designed to ensure that student voice is included in this important discussion, recognizing that seniors can offer unique insights as they prepare to transition beyond high school. We are currently administering the survey and look forward to reviewing the responses, which will help inform future dialogue and decision-making related to AI in teaching and learning.

While the conclusion of the school year marks the beginning of summer break for students and staff, the summer months also provide valuable opportunities for curriculum development and instructional planning. Summer curriculum work remains an important component of the district’s continuous improvement efforts, allowing faculty to review instructional practices, refine curriculum resources, and ensure alignment with current standards and district priorities. These dedicated planning hours create meaningful opportunities for collaboration and reflection, helping educators prepare for a successful start to the upcoming school year and support a cohesive learning experience for all students.

This past week, our literacy consultant, Dr. Hope Weinberg returned to campus for the final session of a series of professional learning opportunities designed to support elementary teachers in the implementation of the Benchmark ELA resource. Throughout the year, these sessions have provided our elementary teachers with guidance on curriculum components, instructional practices, assessment tools, and lesson planning to ensure a successful transition to the new resource beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

With Senior Graduation just days away, the facilities department has been extremely busy. We also have all the end of the year events scheduled, along with moving up/graduations for the Middle School and Elementary School that will take us through the end of June. Transportation has been busy, as well. We’ve been short Drivers along with sports trips, field trips and our regular runs. The last couple of weeks have been extremely hectic in transportation. We also are starting our capital project. Our ground breaking ceremony is scheduled for June 16th. You will begin to see equipment on site shortly after that as we get ready to go full steam ahead on June 26th. We are also scheduling our tennis court redo for the beginning of July. As I said last month we are in for a very busy summer.

Athletic Council

The Haldane Athletic Council hosted its first annual Athletic Fair on June 9. The event provided an opportunity for fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade students to learn about the athletic programs available at Haldane.

The six student-athlete members of the Athletic Council organized 33 student-athlete volunteers who facilitated nine activity stations on the turf field and tennis courts. Featured sports included boys’ and girls’ soccer, football, tennis, boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, baseball, softball, track and field, cross-country, and golf.

The elementary students enthusiastically participated throughout the day, and our student-athlete volunteers did an outstanding job designing engaging activities that introduced younger students to their respective sports.

Fall Sports Season Information

The fall athletic season will begin as follows:

• Varsity Football: Monday, August 17
• All Other JV and Varsity Sports: Monday, August 24
• Modified Football: Wednesday, September 2
• All Other Modified Sports: Tuesday, September 8

Director of Technology/CIO Board Report – Horn – June 2026

We have begun collecting student and staff Chromebooks. We manage all of our device repairs internally. Once the Chromebooks are collected we thoroughly clean the devices, wipe the hard drives, and prepare them for redeployment in the fall. If the Chromebook is damaged, we replace screens, keyboards, mouse pads, etc. Repeat offenders are charged for parts or a replacement fee, if needed. Students in grades 3, 6, and 9 will receive new Chromebooks in the fall. Old Chromebooks will be used for parts, loaners, or recycled if beyond repair.

This summer, our team has an extensive schedule of projects to complete prior to the start of the new school year. The summer months are typically a busy period for the Technology Department. During this time, we update, repair, or replace every device on campus as needed. Additionally, we utilize this period to organize and upgrade our server closets, replace outdated servers, and update battery backups, among other tasks. Since these activities can often cause network disruptions, we schedule this work during times when the campus is unoccupied by students.

ADDENDUM AGREEMENT TO
SUPERINTENDENT’S CONTRACT

 BY AND BETWEEN THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE HALDANE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT, with offices at 15 Craigside Drive, Cold Spring, New York 10516 (hereinafter referred to as the “Board”) and DR. GAIL DUFFY (hereinafter referred to as the “Superintendent”), collectively referred to as “the parties”;

 WHEREBY, the parties agree to amend the provisions of the Superintendent’s March 18, 2025 Contract, as follows:

1. Extend contract through June 30, 2030.

2. Paragraph 1.A.  Increase the Superintendent’s salary by 2.25% effective July 1, 2026 (to $240,288)

3. Paragraph 1.C.  Increase the annual non-elective contribution to the Superintendent’s tax sheltered annuity to $8,000 effective July 1, 2026.

4. Paragraph 11.A.3 (New).  Add the following language: “Upon retirement from the District after at least five (5) years of employment for purposes of receiving NYSTRS benefits, the Superintendent shall be entitled to District-funded individual or family health insurance for life.  The premium contribution percentage will remain the same as that paid during the Superintendent’s final year of employment.”

5. Paragraph 12.  Delete the last sentence.

  All other terms of the Agreement not modified by this Addendum Agreement shall remain in full force and effect.

 SO AGREED effective the 1st day of July, 2026.
